There are many Reiki systems out there, and many initiation sequences being published both in books and over the Internet. These sequences are not intended for anyone to experiment with. As mentioned previously, one needs the correct alignment and training to be most effective in their transmission. Without this, one could liken it to performing surgery without any expertise or training. The danger of proceeding without the necessary understanding and guidance from someone who knows, is often a hit and miss affair. It is one thing to tinker with such sacred teachings on oneself, but it is quite another to tamper with another individual’s path.

The importance of having the correct initiation procedures can be likened to a chemical formula. For example, the Reiki Attunement process is like the formula H2O, which translates as water. Now if we change this formula slightly to H2O2, in chemistry we get hydrogen peroxide.

This was only a slight change with a dramatic effect. Similarly, if we change the attunement procedures and introduce new symbols and/or new procedures outside the Reiki system, we cannot be certain of the outcome. This is why it is essential to have the correct alignment in the traditional system and to perform these procedures correctly every time.
