Boost Your Health In Summer

Stay Hydrated: Dehydration slows down your metabolism, adding kilos. Though Ayurveda says that one must drink according to one’s thirst levels, it is generally accepted that in summer it’s best to drink at least eight glasses of water every day. Don’t wait to feel too thirsty — it’s often an indication that you are already dehydrated.

GH tip: Herbal teas, weak black tea, green tea and diluted fruit juice are other fluids considered good choices. Tea contains some caffeine (which is a diuretic), but this does not have a strong enough effect to counteract that of the fluid. Coffee and cola are stronger diuretics.

Fight The Fatty-Food Overload
Some ways to cut fat (so easy that you wouldn’t even notice them):

Scenario 1: You like to drink 1 glass of whole milk a day.
Expert tip: Switch to low-fat milk and cut out around 6g of fat.
Scenario 2: You like red meat and have more than 150g for dinner.
Expert tip: Reduce the portion size to half and cut out about 9g of fat.
Scenario 3: Everyone in the house loves pizza and you order at least twice a week. Expert tip: Once a week, choose a vegetarian pizza and say no to ‘extra cheese’.
Scenario 4: Four litres of cooking oil are consumed in your household of two adults and two children every month.

Expert tip: Try and cut quantity, change to a lighter, heart-friendly variety, and rotate types of oil for the summer months. If a regular meal in your house has two vegetables, make sure one is sautéed or grilled - a little butter or ghee drizzled over at the end for taste is relatively less sinful. ‘”‘I Repeat positive mantras Say to yourself, ‘I want to be around to see my grandchildren, so 1 can forgo this cookie now’; or type in big font ‘It’s more stressful to continue being fat than to stop overeating’. We all know the “right rules”, but repeatedly telling oneself keeps them on high recall!
