Yin and Yang - dark and light - are the two complementary principles of Chinese philosophy, the polar opposites of all existence. They exist as two sides of a coin. Yin is dark, feminine and negative. Yang is bright, masculine and positive. These complementary forces continually interact, creating change. Their interaction is thought to maintain the harmony of the universe and influence everything within it. Where they blend and achieve balance, there is harmony.
