CAN PREGNANCY SPOIL MARITAL Harmony’?

Pregnancy and childbirth, no doubt, are the two most eagerly awaited, important events in a couple’s married life. But, ironically, pregnancy, if not handled wisely and resourcefully, can create misunderstandings and even a rift between the life partners. At times, the chasm between the husband and wife can widen   and   end   in   a permanent separation.                 POINTS FOR THE HUSBAND TO REMEMBER
• A pregnant wife behaves like an adamant, spoilt child. It is due to her physical discomforts and the psychological changes in her. If the pregnancy occurs very soon after marriage, the problems are more intense. The young wife’s moods are unpredictable and change often. She remains depressed, morose and irritable, especially in the early months. She may not be able to cope with any kind of tough household work. During the early months of pregnancy she might feel sleepy and lethargic most of the time.
An understanding husband does not mind these things, but, on the other hand, gives his wife physical help and moral support.
The sexual relationship with a pregnant wife cannot be the same passionate, vigorous type. Due to physical discomforts and psychological reasons, a pregnant wife may not be in a mood to have sex. A loving and caring husband should not insist on having frequent sex with the young girl.
If he compels her to have sex with him, she could consider him to be a selfish, callous, sex-hungry monster. But if he adjusts himself to her condition and takes care not to hurt her, she will believe that her man is an angel.
 • It is dangerous to have vigorous sex during the first three months and also   the    last   two    months    of pregnancy. If there is some medical problem like bleeding or discharge, sexual contact should be avoided. If they face any problem in sexual relationship it is always safer for the couple   to   consult   a   competent gynecologist.
. • A considerate husband has to keep his pregnant wife happy and cheerful. He can give her small trinkets as token of his love; he can bring her some unusual, tasty snacks and dishes; he can take her out for picnics, films, etc.
If the would-be mother remains happy, the unborn baby inside her womb also gets sufficient nutrition and grows healthy.
 • It is very important that however busy he might be a loving husband gives quality time to his wife. When his wife desires to have his company, he should never refuse to grant her wish. In case he has to do some urgent work, he should convince her about it.
•   Any   wife feels   proud   of   a husband who respects her parents and relatives. So, a tactful husband has to take her to visit her relatives
Any wife feels proud of a husband who respectsher parents and relatives, So, a tactful husband has to take her to visit her relatives and also he should be on friendly terms with them.
And also he should be on friendly terms with them. He can even invite] Q her parents or some close relative to give her help and company during pregnancy.
• A considerate husband sees to it that   his   expectant   wife   is   not overburdened with household work. There should be somebody - a servant or a relative - to help her in household chores. Even the husband can volunteer to share her work in the kitchen. She will feel very grateful to such a husband.
• During pregnancy most of the girls lose their charm and beauty. After delivery, however, they regain them.     Sometimes,    an     unwise, reckless   husband   could   pass   a sarcastic   remark referring to her bulging belly or about the dark circles under the eyes. The sensitive would-be mother can never forgive such a callous, selfish husband.
• The husband’s duty does not end with the arrival of the baby. In fact, his responsibility increases then. A considerate husband has to help his wife by sharing the task of looking after the newborn. He can do jobs like   changing   the   baby’s   nappy, bottle-feeding the baby and looking after the infant when the mother is asleep. When a husband helps his wife in baby care, he can win her love and loyalty for life.
