Elliptical Exerciser
Elliptical Exerciser
These hybrid machines combine many of the benefits of other aerobic equipment. You stand on footplates like those on a stairstepper, but these plates travel in an orbit around an axis like a stationary bicycle. Instead of a bike’s round orbit, however, they travel in an elliptical pattern. The length of the stride often can be adjusted. The result is a no-impact, kind-to-the-joints motion that combines elements of a striding walk or run, pedaling a bike, and climbing stairs. One variation of these machines also has some kind of upper-body motion, usually upright ski-pole-style handles that you pump while moving your feet. This makes elliptical exercisers valuable cross-training tools, too.
