If you go to a trainer and seek advice for dealing with specific problem areas, he or she probably will get you started on a general program to improve your overall fitness and shed fat. Once you’re on that track, you can again seek help in targeting those touchy spots. Here are some of the most problematic areas that many people want to target. If you have one (or more) of them, here’s what you’ll probably be counseled to do (read on for more details on how a trainer might counsel you to tackle specific problems):
? Flapping underarms. Solution: Triceps exercises with weights, triceps dips, triceps extensions, and triceps push-downs on a weight machine. ? Flabby underarms. Solution: Triceps exercises.Remember that you can spot-strengthen, but you cannot spot-reduce. Spot-reduction will only show up when you lose the fat on top of the problem part that you have toned. That takes cardiovascular exercise and a sensible diet.
? Hollow chest or rounded shoulders. Solution: Lat and pectoral exercises with weights; push-ups; chest press, chest fly, lat pull-down, and seated rows on a weight machine.
? Love handles. Solution: Aerobic exercise is the most important activity to rid yourself of love handles. In addition, do side stretches, oblique crunches, and back extensions. ? Gut bulge or beer belly. Solution: Crunches, crunches, crunches.Crunches using your lower torso as well as your upper torso work all of your abdominal muscles.
? Flabby thighs. Solution: Side-leg lifts, inner-thigh lifts, abduction and adduction stations on a weight machine.
