Five Spiritual Principles of Reiki
Five Spiritual Principles of Reiki
Usui soon realized that it was not enough to heal a person’s physical condition, that spiritual healing was vital in total transformation. Having ignored the beggars’ spiritual needs he had denied them the appreciation for life and how to live in a new way. They had received this healing art freely and were not required to give anything in return, thus they simply did not appreciate the gift that was given. Usui then decided to leave the beggars and began teaching people who truly wanted to be healed. He developed five spiritual principles to assist his students in developing themselves in their healing:
- Just for today, do not anger
- Just for today, do not worry
- Honor your parents, teachers and elders
- Earn your living honestly
- Show gratitude to every living thing
As Usui traveled from town to town, he would carry a flaming torch during the day as a symbol of the light and spiritual teachings that he was offering. It became his calling card and his popularity soon spread. He acquired many disciples who would travel with him and assist him in his teachings. One of his principle students was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Usui continued teaching Reiki for the remainder of his life. Before his death Usui passed all his knowledge to his senior student Dr. Chujiro Hayashi so that Reiki could be passed onto: others and not lost, as it had been in the past.
Usui appointed Hayashi as the Grand Master of the Reiki and Hayashi carried forth the work of his master in a similar manner.
