The Methods of Moshe and Matthias
Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) was a scientist, engineer, judo instructor, and an associate of Frederic Joliot-Curie at the Curie Institute in Paris. F. Matthias Alexander (1869-1955) was an actor who lost his voice and experimented with and developed methods to help him regain it so that he could return to the stage. The Feldenkrais (pronounced FELL-den-krise) Method and the Alexander Technique both aim to rebalance and realign the body for pain management, flexibility, coordination, and conduct of everyday activities. Both systems, which are practiced one-on-one with trained teachers and practitioners, gained favor with musicians and others who have to do repetitive movements in unnatural body positions.
