Difference of Western and USUI Reiki
Universal Reiki is a very ‘user-friendly’ healing system. One does not need any specific requirements to learn this system, as the methods taught do not align with any particular religious or a specific spiritual background.
When examining Medicine Dharma Reiki, it is clearly, a more complex system.
Aligning itself more closely to Vajrayana Buddhist Arising Yoga, and with some similar parallels to Central Asian Shamanism.
Medicine Dharma Reiki has a greater emphasis on spiritual development and dedication on behalf of the student. To receive the original transmissions in Medicine Dharma Reiki, a student requires Buddhist refuge and is encouraged to embrace an understanding of the base concepts of Buddha Dharma practice.
In honoring the original Reiki system as it stands today, one can only qualify to receive these teachings in this way. The material contained within the Tantra is a complete healing system according to traditional Buddhist methodology. It is for these reasons why one needs to be qualified to receive initiation. Menchhos Reiki students are generally screened to discern their personal motivation and intentions before they are allowed to learn from the Sensei. This is not from exclusive or sectarian views; it is simply a matter of qualification and generating the right motivation. For Menchhos Reiki to be effective, one requires a sincere interest and background in certain Buddhist practices to achieve the desired results.
Without this, the actual empowerments and ones practice will not be effective. As these teachings are translated and adapted, one can imagine that these teachings will, to a degree, evolve from the traditional model to a more accessible contemporary form.
