THE OBLIGATIONS OF A HEALER

It is interesting for me to say here that I have never had a case quite like hers again, but I have treated a number of “Western female patients who until I explained it to them, did not connect the act of sexual intercourse with their condition of pregnancy. I also examined a young Western man who frankly disclosed to me that he believed that kissing could result in pregnancy. I explained to him that whereas kissing might lead to the act, that kissing alone could not impregnate a girl.
I have also treated five young Western ladies who also believed that kissing was the primary cause of pregnancy. On questioning them I found that their mothers had all told them this in order to discourage the practice. But to return to my patient and her original story. Had I prescribed a laxative or attempted to bring on menses by other Western practices or Chinese herbs, I could well have caused a miscarriage, the subsequent death of the fetus and perhaps hemorrhage and death of the mother, but I refrained from treatment until I could research her problem, and then spent the time to judiciously question her and thus discovered the primary cause of her condition.
I could either regale or bore you with many more anecdotes of this kind but I will not for it is time for us to good.
