The Elements
Fcng Shui concerns itself with people and their interaction with the earth, sun, sky, moon and stars. Everything - including people is classified into one of the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. And each of the five elements has particular characteristics. These can each be energising or debilitating, according to how they interact with each other.
Personal elements
For everyone there is one particular personal element which will be as important to them as their Western Zodiac sign. In the Chinese system, it will have fundamental bearing on their astrological influences. In Chinese astrology, there are 12 animal signs which are assigned to each year in a pattern of rotation: rat, ox. Tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, pig. Each year is also assigned one of the five elements.
The Chinese astrological year runs from around the 4th or 5th of February (the date varies each year), and the following table shows you the animal sign to which your year of birth belongs. For example, 1914 is the year of the tiger, 1915 is the year of the rabbit. The element relating to your personality and fortune would be worked out according to the date, time, month and year of your birth.
