A substance called carnitine also plays a vital energy role. It transports essential fatty acids, which are convened into energy that the heart, muscles and body tissues can use. Your bodies makes carnitine naturally, but often not enough of it — so eat more meat and dairy foods, which are both good sources.
Find the right exercise
It is no good improving your diet if you don’t get any exercise. Eating regularly will ensure that the flow of glucose into your bloodstream is sufficiently steady to keep energy levels consistent and avoid sudden, deep lows. However, when you increase your energy output with exercise, your body conversely responds by converting more glucose into more energy. So the more you exercise, the more energy you are able to make! As we age, this cellular function falls off, so it’s important to use it - not lose it. Choose an activity you enjoy, and aim for at least 30 minutes’ exercise, thrice a week. The activity needs to be just strenuous enough to raise your heart rate to a level at which you break out into a sweat at some point over that half hour, while still being able to continue to hold a conversation.
